City officials in Canton, Ohio have announced a new fixed-rate for the city's natural gas aggregation program. The 24-month rate is set at $3.953 per Mcf and will be effective until March 2026. Letters detailing the rate, terms, and conditions are expected to reach residents and small commercial customers during the week of March 11th from IGS Energy.
Eric Burns, Director of Aggregation at Independent Energy Consultants, emphasized the importance of reading these letters carefully. He noted that current program participants will receive an "opt-out" letter requiring no action to remain in the program. Those receiving their gas supply from Dominion Energy Ohio will also get an "opt-out" letter and can join the program by doing nothing.
The city reminds residents that this aggregation program is one option among others available for managing energy costs. The Public Utility Commission of Ohio offers a list of alternative options on their website. It is important to consider potential early termination penalties or automatic renewal provisions when evaluating these alternatives.
Residents are encouraged not to contact city offices with questions but instead direct inquiries to IGS Energy at 877-353-0162 or visit https://cantonohio.gov/467/Natural-Gas-FAQ for more information.
