State Representative Scott Oelslager has voted to confirm Jim Tressel as Ohio's new lieutenant governor. Tressel, who recently retired from his position as president of Youngstown State University in 2023, has a long history with the institution, including 15 years as head coach of its football team. He also served as head football coach for the Ohio State Buckeyes for ten seasons before taking on the role of executive vice president for student success at the University of Akron.

The Ohio Senate also confirmed Tressel's appointment on Wednesday. The confirmation process follows the guidelines set by the Ohio Constitution, which stipulates that a vacancy in the office of lieutenant governor requires a nomination by the governor and confirmation by a majority vote in both houses of the General Assembly.

Representative Oelslager expressed his support through his vote, aligning with both legislative chambers' decision to appoint Tressel to this role.
