Mayor addresses incident involving Canton police K-9 officer

Canton's mayor has addressed a recent incident involving a police K-9 officer. On May 31, 2024, the mayor issued a statement acknowledging the situation concerning Canton Police K-9 Officer Nicholas Casto. The incident occurred on the evening of May 30th.

The mayor confirmed that Officer Casto has been placed on paid administrative leave in accordance with department policy. "I am aware of the incident regarding Canton Police K-9 Officer Nicholas Casto that took place on the evening of May 30th," stated the mayor. "Effective today, Officer Casto has been placed on paid administrative leave per department policy."

The mayor emphasized the seriousness with which these incidents are taken and acknowledged that the community might have questions about the matter. "I take these occurrences very seriously. I understand the community will have questions, and I will ensure that my office will be forthcoming with information as it becomes available," he said.
