City of Canton officials have issued a warning to residents about individuals posing as third-party electrical inspectors attempting to gain access to homes. Mayor William V. Sherer II emphasized the importance of caution, stating, “We’ve spoken with representatives from AEP and they’ve assured us that anytime they need to enter anyone’s residence they will always call to schedule an appointment in advance.” He further advised, “Never under any circumstances should you let these individuals into your home."

The city began receiving reports on Monday, April 22, about supposed inspectors claiming affiliation with a third-party electrical company. These individuals reportedly told residents that a new law in Ohio permitted them entry into homes.

Mayor Sherer clarified the situation by stating, “We are unaware of any such law that would permit these people access into the homes of our residents.” The mayor urged residents not to allow these individuals inside their homes or share personal information with them. If safety concerns arise, residents are advised to contact emergency services by calling 9-1-1.
