City of Canton Mayor William V. Sherer II has issued an additional statement concerning the in-custody death incident involving Frank E. Tyson, which occurred on April 18, 2024.
The mayor announced the release of bodycam footage related to the arrest incident. "Today we have released the bodycam footage of the arrest incident involving the death of Mr. Frank E. Tyson," Sherer stated. He mentioned meeting with members of Tyson's family to show them the footage before it was made public and to offer his condolences personally.
Mayor Sherer emphasized his commitment to transparency during this difficult period for the community. He noted that the investigation is being conducted by BCI and assured continued cooperation by providing necessary information for their work. However, he also acknowledged limitations on sharing further details due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.
