The Ohio House of Representatives has passed House Joint Resolution 8, a bipartisan initiative that allows Ohio voters to decide on renewing the Public Works Commission State Capital Improvement Program (SCIP). The resolution was announced by its sponsor, State Representative Scott Oelslager from North Canton. He is joined in sponsorship by State Representative Daniel Troy from Willowick.
The SCIP is set to expire on July 1, 2026. It provides funding for essential infrastructure projects across Ohio. The new resolution aims to extend the program for another decade.
"To invest in critical infrastructure is to invest in economic development and the future of our state," said Oelslager. "It has been an honor to champion this program and I look forward to watching it continue to positively impact our communities."
Oelslager and Troy were also behind the original legislation that established the program in 1987. If approved, this will mark the fifth time Ohio voters have considered renewing the program since its inception and renewals in 1995, 2005, and 2014.
House Joint Resolution 8 will now proceed to the Ohio Senate for further consideration.
