Ohio House Speaker Pro Tempore Scott Oelslager (R-North Canton) has announced the recent passage of several significant pieces of legislation. These bills address a range of important issues and aim to improve various aspects of Ohio's governance.

One of the bills passed is the Brenna Brossard SUDEP Awareness Act, also known as House Bill 229. This legislation will require healthcare practitioners to provide patients with written information about the risk factors and conditions associated with sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP). The information will also include contact details for nonprofit organizations that offer support and information services for epilepsy conditions. This bill aims to raise awareness about SUDEP and ensure that individuals with epilepsy have access to the necessary resources.

Another bill that received overwhelming support is House Bill 258. Co-sponsored by Oelslager, this legislation aims to address the issue of selling tobacco products to minors. The bill increases penalties and fines for individuals who are repeatedly caught selling cigarettes, tobacco, or alternative nicotine products to minors. Additionally, these individuals will be subject to Ohio's public nuisance law. This bill sends a strong message that the state takes the health and well-being of its young residents seriously.

In addition to these bills, House Bill 184 was also passed. This legislation focuses on modernizing Ohio's Charitable Solicitations Law. By updating this law, Ohio aims to streamline the process for charitable organizations and provide greater transparency and accountability in charitable solicitations. This will ensure that the generous donations of Ohioans are used effectively and for their intended purposes.
