State Rep. Scott Oelslager (R-North Canton) recently announced the details of the newly created Welcome Home Ohio program. The program, aimed at improving affordable housing in Ohio, will provide grants and tax credits to landbanks and developers.
Under the program, there will be $100 million in grants available for landbanks to purchase, rehabilitate, or build residential properties for eligible Ohioans based on their income. Additionally, there will be $50 million in nonrefundable tax credits for landbanks and developers to use towards qualifying rehabs and new construction once a property is sold.
"I'm encouraged to see housing initiatives come to fruition in Ohio," said Oelslager. "This program will play a vital role in providing Ohioans with affordable housing options and opportunities to flourish right here in our state."
The grant application period is currently open and will close at 11:59 pm on February 9, 2024. Rolling applications will then be accepted from February 12 through May 31, 2024.
The Welcome Home Ohio program was established in the state budget and is expected to have a significant impact on improving affordable housing throughout the state.
