The City of Canton, working alongside the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), is seeking public input on a proposed bridge rehabilitation project. The Fourth St SE bridge over the East Branch of Nimishillen Creek in Stark County is in need of extensive repairs, with the plan detailing a full-depth deck slab replacement, structural steel replacement, and repairs and painting of beam ends.

Mannik and Smith Group Inc. has been appointed as the City's consultant for this project aimed at addressing several bridge and roadway deficiencies. To facilitate the construction work, traffic will be rerouted via Young Ave SE, Tuscarawas St. E (S.R. 172), and Hartford Ave SE.

Construction is expected to commence in the summer of 2026, spanning approximately four months. Citizens can view the full scope of the project by visiting the Canton official website.

Community feedback is encouraged, with public comments being a vital part of the planning process. Comments can be submitted electronically on the project website or directly to the contact provided. While submissions by May 25, 2025, are prioritized for inclusion in official project documentation, feedback will be accepted continuously.

The City of Canton assures that public participation in the project will be conducted without discrimination of any kind. Any person needing accommodations to participate can contact the city by May 18, 2025.

Inquiries or comments can be directed to Robert Sobnosky, Senior Engineer, at (330) 438-6931 or via email at robert.sobnosky@cantonohio.gov.
