CANTON, Ohio - As frigid temperatures hit Canton on Sunday, January 14, 2024, through Monday, January 15, 2024, warming centers are being made available for those in need. The Canton Civic Center and Refuge of Hope will be open to provide shelter and assistance during the extreme weather conditions. It is important to note that COVID-19 precautions, such as wearing masks and practicing social distancing, will be strictly enforced at these locations.

According to Tammy Diener from the Canton City Hall, "We have taken all necessary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents during this cold spell. Our warming centers will provide a safe and warm environment for those who require assistance."

To further support the community, the Canton Police and Fire Departments will be present at the warming centers to monitor the situation and check on citizens who may be exposed to the cold weather. Citizens in need of assistance are advised to call 911 for immediate help.

In addition to the warming centers, Crossroads United Methodist Church located at 120 Cleveland Ave SW will be serving hot food until 2 pm on Sunday, January 14. They will also be providing breakfast and lunch until 2 pm on Tuesday, January 16. This initiative aims to ensure that residents have access to warm meals during this challenging time.

For those requiring transportation to the warming centers, SARTA (Stark Area Regional Transit Authority) will be providing transportation services. However, in the event that SARTA is not available, individuals can call 330-649-5800 for assistance.

The Canton Civic Center, located at 1101 Market Avenue North, will be open for guests. It is important to enter through the south doors labeled "McKinley Room" below the parking garage. Masks will be available on-site if needed. The hours of operation for the warming center are not specified in the given information.

The Refuge of Hope, situated at 715 Second St NE, will also be open to provide shelter and warm beverages and food. Guests are advised to enter through door #4 and ring the bell for assistance. However, the hours of operation for this center are not mentioned.

As the city of Canton comes together to support its residents during this extreme weather event, it is crucial for everyone to stay safe and seek assistance if needed. The authorities and organizations involved in this initiative are dedicated to ensuring that no one is left out in the cold.
