Columbus, Dec 14, 2023 - Speaker Pro Tempore Scott Oelslager (R-North Canton) has announced the recent passage of several important House Bills. These bills address a range of issues and aim to improve various aspects of public life in Ohio.

One of the bills, House Bill 257, allows certain public bodies to meet virtually using teleconference, video conference, or similar electronic technology. This measure will enable greater accessibility and flexibility for these public bodies.

Another significant bill, House Bill 161, eliminates spousal exceptions for sexual assault. Co-sponsored by Oelslager, this legislation aims to ensure that all victims of sexual assault are equally protected by the law.

In an effort to enhance the safety of sports officials, House Bill 139 increases the penalties for assaulting a sports official. This change brings the penalties more in line with those already in place for bus drivers, teachers, and administrators.

House Bill 256 introduces a requirement for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) to inquire about organ donation when individuals register for a hunting or fishing license. This measure aims to increase awareness and encourage organ donation.

Oelslager has also co-sponsored House Bill 176, which revises the Ohio Carpenters License Plate. This bill creates a charitable donation opportunity when applying for the "Ohio Carpenters" license plate and allows motorcycle riders to apply for the same plate.

Honoring the legacy of public servants, House Bill 81 designates a portion of State Route 39 as the "Sheriff Dale R. Williams Memorial Highway." This bill pays tribute to Sheriff Williams' dedicated service to the community.

Similarly, House Bill 54 designates the interchange between I-475 and Dorr Street as the "Keith G. Earley Memorial Interchange" in remembrance of Keith Earley, who served as Lucas County Engineer for 19 years.

In recognition of the sacrifice made by Cleveland Firefighter Johnny Tetrick, House Bill 107 designates a portion of Interstate 90 in Cuyahoga County as the "Cleveland Firefighter Johnny Tetrick Memorial Highway."

Lastly, House Bill 75 designates a portion of State Route 72 in Greene County as the "Caitlin Renee Preston Memorial Highway." This bill honors the legacy of Caitlin Renee Preston, who tragically passed away in a car accident in May 2019.

Oelslager expressed his commitment to serving the people of Stark County and Ohio as a whole. He emphasized, "In everything I do, whether it is in Columbus or back in my home district of Stark County, I will continue to make your priorities my priorities." He encouraged constituents to provide feedback and share their opinions with him.
