After nearly two full weeks off from competition due to the recent inclement weather, the Malone University softball team was back in action on Tuesday as the Pioneers traveled to Point Park University for a non-conference doubleheader.

Aided by a huge second inning at the plate, Malone won the first game by a final score of 5-2.

Point Park bounced back for a 3-0 shutout win in the second game.

THE ESSENTIALS

  • Game 1: Malone University Pioneers 5 - Point Park University Pioneers 2
  • Game 2: Point Park University Pioneers 3 - Malone University Pioneers 0
  • Records: Malone (6-10, 0-0 G-MAC) | Point Park (2-6, 1-1 RSC)
  • Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | Fairhaven Park
GAME ONE

Elizabeth Dyke's RBI double in the top of the first inning gave the Pioneers the early lead.

Malone broke the game open in the top of the second.

With one out in the inning Reagan Smith launched her second home run of the season over the left field fence to make it 2-0 in favor of MU.

Later on in the frame Taylor Kern came through with a two-out, two-run single to bring home both Karlie Duvall and Hannah Offenberger.

All told Malone held a 4-0 lead headed into the bottom of the second inning.

Dyke, who had the start in the pitcher's circle, was able to keep Point Park's lineup off balance for most of the game.

The host Pioneers did manage one run in the bottom of the second and one run in the bottom of the seventh.

Taylor Kern's RBI double in the top of the seventh was the only other run of the ballgame.

GAME TWO

Jensen Miller had the game two start in the circle. She pitched all six innings, and scattered six hits.

Point Park pushed across three runs, two of them coming on a two-run home run in the second.

Malone's offense came away with five hits, but unfortunately did not break through for any runs.

DETAILS

  • Elizabeth Dyke and Taylor Kern each had three hits on the doubleheader. Kern led the way with three RBIs.
  • Amber Burick finished with a pair of hits on four at bats.
  • Dyke picked up her third win of the season in the pitcher's circle.
