“We are very excited that AJ has accepted our offer to take the reins of the UMU esports program,” said John Frazier, vice president for student affairs and dean of students at Mount Union. “He was chosen from a large and talented pool of applicants. AJ brings a love of Mount Union and a demonstrated record of hard work and success to the position. He is a talented gamer who understands the rigors of esports and, perhaps more important, he is skilled in relationships and in team building. Our previous coach, Derek Spinell, built a successful program and we are confident that AJ is the right leader to continue the growth and success of esports at UMU!”
Digby takes over a successful Mount Union esports program that boasts 16 all-conference honorees from the Great Lakes Esports Conference since 2020. Alumnus Jared Schulte ‘20 was also named the 2019-2020 College Player of the Year by The National Association of Esports Coaches and Directors.
Mount Union currently offers esports scholarships to qualified students with varsity level offerings in League of Legends, Overwatch, Rocket League, Super Smash Bros.: Ultimate and Valorant. Players compete in a state-of-the-art esports facility on campus that includes a players’ lounge, broadcast space and stage. Learn more at mountunion.edu/esports
