Seven members of the Kent State track and field program combined for eight program indoor top-10 all-time marks as split squads were in action on Friday at the University of Illinois and Penn State University.
Illini ChallengeIn their first collegiate pentathlon, Svenia De Coninck and Matilde Carboncini etched their names in the Golden Flashes record book with the ninth and 10th highest totals, respectively. De Coninck placed seventh with a score of 3,536 points and won the high jump with a height of 5'-7.25" that ties for 10th in school history. Carboncini totaled 3,500 points with a time of 9.04 seconds for sixth in the 60-meter hurdles as her best finish of the competition.
Alexander Shields and Ayden Bath sit second and fifth, respectively, through four events in the men's heptathlon. Shields, who has 3,146 points, won the long jump with a mark of 23'-9.5" and added personal-bests in the 60-meter dash (7.01) and shot put (44'-8.75"). Bath scored 2,808 points and recorded a pair of fourth-place showings in the 60m (7.15) and long jump (22'-3.5").
Penn State National OpenGrace Luther remained unbeaten in the women's weight throw with a heave of 62'-1". Luther's winning throw moves her into the No. 8 spot on the Flashes' all-time performance list.
A one-two finish by Jaheim Jones and Asa Hodrick in the men's 60-meter dash highlighted a night of stellar performances on the track for the Flashes. Jones ran a personal-best time of 6.71 seconds that puts him in a tie for fifth on Kent State's all-time performance list, while Hodrick matched his PR of 6.74 and sits at 10th.
Baidy Ba came within 0.5 seconds of his second school record of the season with a PR of 4:01.60 to place eighth in the men's mile.
In the final race of the night, Leah Lisle took second in the women's 5,000-meter run with a PR of 17:17.29 for the fifth fastest time in Flashes history.
