Flashes Fall Short on the Road Against the Charleston Cougars

In a game that had four ties and five-game lead changes, the Flashes fell short two points against the Charleston Cougars 74-72 at TD Arena Saturday evening.

The Flashes started off with the energy that was needed to win the game, posting rebounds and putting the ball in the net. The Flashes held the Cougars scoreless in the first minutes of the game. Malique Jacobs was on fire posting the first five points of the game. Miryne Thomas held his own defensively creating opportunities, which helped the Flashes to an 8-0 lead right from the jump.

The two teams dueled trading baskets and leads the entire game and the crowd matched that energy. With unfortunate fouls from the Flashes, the Cougars were able to sneak in points from the foul line helping them keep the score within a couple of points of each other. The intensity only grew and with four minutes left the teams were tied at 69. Thomas helped the Flashes get ahead by posting a three-point shot making the score 72-69. The Cougars took advantage of the last couple of opportunities they were presented including a turnover by the Flashes that allowed Cougar's guard Jaylen Scott to post a three-point with only 23 seconds left on the clock. Sincere Carry attempts what could have been a game-winning three, and it just would not go in the Flashes' favor.

Despite a tough loss for the Flashes, there were a number of players that stood out in the game. Sincere Carry pulled off a game-high 25 points almost doubling the Cougar's top scorer and chipped in five rebounds. Malique Jacobs followed scoring 15 points and four steals, assists, and rebounds.

For the game, Kent shot 30-of-68 (44.1 percent) from the floor and 9-of-20 (45 percent) from beyond the arch. The Flashes and Cougars were neck and neck with 37 rebounds each but the Flashes got the Cougars with nine second-chance points to their 8.
