MEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO RANKED IUP

Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) looked like the #3 team in Division II as they soared to a 74-60 win over Walsh. IUP jumped out to an early 10-point lead and never looked back, leading the Cavs by as many as 26 at one point. 2nd half resiliency did help Walsh cut the lead down to 14 to end the game, but a first half that saw the Hawks go 45% from the field compared to Walsh's 25% sealed the deal for IUP. Walsh tried to fill the absence of recently injured PG, Garrison Keeslar, but even a 24-point effort from Tim Smith couldn't help the team overcome his loss. The Cavs finished the game with a 35.7% field goal percentage, whereas the Hawks finished at 50%.

SCORE: Walsh 60, IUP 74

LOCATION: North Canton, Ohio (Alumni Arena)

RECORDS: Walsh 2-2 (0-0), IUP 4-0 (0-0)

FOR THE CAVALIERS:

  • Tim Smith Jr. led Walsh with 24 points tonight while hauling in 8 boards on a hard-fought 38-minute game.
  • Milan Square snuck into double digits thanks to a couple of tough finishes around the rim, ending with 10.
  • A couple of late threes from Owen Hazelbaker helped get him to 11 points on a poor shooting night that saw him go 3-15 from the field.
  • Zack Oddo got his first career points tonight as a Cav, knocking down a 15-footer along the baseline.
FOR THE HAWKS:

  • Shawndale Jones led all scorers with 26 on a very efficient shooting performance, going 8-14, while dishing out four assists and knocking down all 9 of his free throw attempts.
  • Dave Morris also had a 20-point performance as he grabbed 8 rebounds and hit 4 threes.
  • Two other Hawks also cracked double digits with 11 apiece.
Walsh will look to get back in the win column as they take on Division III, Carlow on Wednesday at noon in Alumni Arena. That will wrap up the Cavs' month of basketball before they start GMAC play vs. ODU on December 1st.
