The Flashes Look to Keep the Winning Streak Alive

The Kent State men's basketball (4-0) team will conclude their three-game home stand this Saturday afternoon against Chicago State(2-2). The Flashes look to extend their record to 5-0, something that has not happened since the 2019-20 season when they went 20-12 overall.

This will be the second time in program history the Flashes and Chicago State will meet. The last time the two teams played, Kent State won 92-63 on Nov. 16, 2012.

The Flashes have won three of their four games by 20+ points, dominating offensively. Sincere Carry continues to strike other teams' defense. Carry has a team-high 19.8 points per game and 6.5 assists per game.  The Flashes have multiple players that have contributed heavily to the undefeated season. Giovanni Santiago has been posting threes left and right, leading the team with Carry on the win against AR-Pine Bluff with 17 points. Miryne Thomas has scored double digits in every game with the Flashes this season. Thomas wiped the board with his game-high 13 rebounds against AR-Pine and chipped in 10 points.

The Flashes turned up the heat defensively last game, recording a game-high 43 rebounds. The Flashes have shown they can pressure the ball forcing turnovers and defensive rebounds. Coach Senderoff stated, "If we play this way every single day impacting the rim and getting rebounds, we will continue to win games."

The Flashes have a bench that is able to create just as much opportunity as their starters. Jalen Sullingers posted double digits against AR-Pine Bluff coming off the bench. The bench posted 31 points and over half the team's rebounds on Nov. 16.

Scouting the Cougars

The Chicago State men's basketball team posted another win at home on Nov. 16 against Valparaiso. The Cougars look to post a win on the road for their first time this season against Kent. The Cougars (2-2) had five players score double digits in their last game led by Wesley Cardet with 24. Elijah Weaver had 16, Deshawn Jean-Charles with 14, Brent Davis with 11, and Bryce Johnson with 10.

Head Coach Gerald Gilliion takes the Cougars on for his second season with the team. The Cougars were previously in the Western Athletic Conference and now will be independent. The 2022-23 Chicago State team hopes to continue to strengthen its team with four returning players, seven transfers, and six freshmen.
