The Kent State men's basketball team (1-0) returns to the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center for their season home-opener against Baldwin Wallace (0-0) on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 5 p.m. The Flashes are coming in hot after a 78-57 win against Northern Kentucky inside Truist Arena.
The Golden Flashes have won their last 16 home openers dating back to the 2005-6 season. They will look to extend that streak to 17 straight when the Yellow Jackets come to town.
Rob Senderoff's Golden Flashes have dominated at the MACC, Creating one of the best home-court advantages in the Mid-American Conference. Over the past 11 seasons, the Flashes hold a 129-45 (.741) record at home. Kent State has not lost more than four home games in a single season since 2016-17, and the team has a 50-13 record at home during that time.
Kent State is coming off a big win against preseason Horizon League favorites, Northern Kentucky. The Golden Flashes pulled away from a 35-29 halftime lead on the strength of a 54.5 percent shooting (30-55). Sincere Carry did not skip a beat from last season ringing in a game-high 17 points and eight assists. Miyrine Thomas showed the Flashes he was going to be a major force in his first game with the team. Thomas had the first basket of the game posting 14 points and five rebounds.
VonCameron Davis and Jalen Sullinger were two other Flashes that contributed double digits with ten points each. Cli'Ron Hornbeak started his season strong recording a career and game-high 13 rebounds and shot 54.2 percent (13-24) from three-point range.
About Yellow Jackets
The Golden Flashes and Yellow Jackets have not competed since Dec. 11, 1963. The Flashes are on a nine-win game streak against the Yellow Jackets.
Baldwin Wallace looks to compete in their second exhibition game of the season against the Flashes tomorrow night. The Yellow Jackets return seven letter winners, two All-OAC players, and four Academic All-OAC performers from the 2021-22 season.
Senior Anthony Mazzeo returns after recording a career-high 468 points, 118 rebounds, and 65 assists in the 2021-22 season. The Yellow Jackets will also be returning senior guard, Jake Snyder, who appeared in all 25 games and posted a career-high 357 points and 84 assists.
