2022-23 BASKETBALL PREVIEW; TICKETS NOW ON SALE

The Great Midwest Athletic Conference has announced the 2022-23 Men's and Women's Basketball Preseason Coaches Poll presented by Under Armour on the heels of the 2022-23 season starting up in 10 days.

FOR THE CAVALIER MEN:

The Cavaliers will look to repeat as conference champions this year under head coach, Jeff Young. Walsh loses a talented senior class in Darryl Straughter and Caleb Canter, but return several key players. First-Team All-Conference selection Garrison Keeslar returns for Walsh after averaging 13.7 points per game. Keeslar also ranked second in the conference in assists per game at 4.9 and third in rebounding with 223 on the year. Also returning for Coach Young is the 6'7" forward in Tim Smith Jr. He averaged 12 points for the Cavaliers and was named Athlete of the Week for his performance in the Great Midwest Tournament.

 

The Oilers from Findlay came in at No. 2 and the Chargers from Hillsdale College were ranked in the No. 3 spot.

 

FOR THE CAVALIER WOMEN:

Under the guidance of newly tabbed head coach, Mark Schwitzgable, the Cavaliers were voted in the No. 3 spot heading into the start of the season. The Cavaliers received a total of 110 votes, including one first place vote.  As last year's conference runner-up, the maroon and gold will to look to build on last year's success after falling short in last year's Midwest Regional Championship. Walsh will miss Player of the Year in Sha Carter as well as Mayci Sales, a five-time First-Team selection. The league's best three-point shooter in Morgan McMillen returns for Walsh as well as Second-Team All-Conference selection Lexie Scarton. McMillen made 102 threes on the year at .483 percent. Scarton ranked fourth in the Great Midwest in Assist/Turnover ratio as well as assists per game at 3.7.

Ashland University was voted in at the No. 1 spot and the Panthers of Kentucky Wesleyan grabbed the No. 2 spot.

Both programs kick-off their seasons on Friday, November 11th. The Men will host the GLVC/G-MAC Crossover event in Alumni Arena on November 11-12. The Cavs will host the University of Missouri-St. Louis, Maryville University and Tiffin University.

The Women head to Kenosha, Wisconsin to compete in the Nexus Classic. They will take on Rockhurst University on Friday, November 11th and Missouri S&T on Saturday, November 12th.

Season passes are now on sale through the official ticketing partner of Walsh University Athletics, Hometown Ticketing. The Walsh University season pass provides the pass holder admittance to all Walsh University home, regular season, basketball contests for their 2022-23 season. Single game tickets will be available online the week of the contest and available for purchase on site. Multiple ticket levels available.
