Thursday evening, the Malone University women's soccer team played a second consecutive road match.
The Pioneers made the short trip up Market Avenue for a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) matchup with rival Walsh University.
Unfortunately the Cavaliers scored the first three goals of the game, and held off Malone's comeback attempt to secure a 3-1 win.
THE ESSENTIALS
- Final Score: Walsh University Cavaliers 3 - Malone University Pioneers 1
- Records: Malone (1-4-3, 0-3-3 G-MAC) | Walsh (5-4-1, 3-3-1 G-MAC)
- Location: North Canton, Ohio | Larry Staudt Field
For much of the first half it looked like the teams would be heading to the halftime break scoreless.
That changed however when the Cavaliers found the back of the net in the 41st minute for the game's first goal.
Less than three minutes into the second half Walsh added to their lead with another goal.
The Cavaliers stretched their advantage out to 3-0 with another score in the 62nd minute.
Despite only getting off two shots in the entire second half, the Pioneers broke through for a goal in the 69th minute. It was Morgan Ross who beat the Walsh keeper for her second goal of the season.
Unfortunately Malone was unable to score again as Walsh held on for the 3-1 win.
WHAT'S NEXT
Malone will travel to Ursuline College for a rematch with the Arrows this weekend. The Pioneers and Arrows just played to a 1-1 draw at King Field last week.
Saturday's rematch in Pepper Pike is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
