After seemingly countless attempts at finding a time to play due to the recent rash of inclement weather in Northeast Ohio, Malone University and Ursuline College finally played their Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.
Unfortunately for the Pioneers (6-22, 2-15) the Arrows (11-21, 9-9 G-MAC) swept the doubleheader by final scores of 6-2 and 9-1.
Game 1 Highlights
Ursuline got on the board first with a RBI double in the bottom of the second inning. From that point on however, Glendy Bergdorf was able to kept the Arrow bats off balance.
Unfortunately Malone's offense struggled to create many scoring opportunities.
The Arrows broke through for five runs on five hits and a Pioneer error in the fifth.
The Pioneers got a RBI single from Lauren Bennett in the sixth and a RBI base-hit from Karlie Duvall in the seventh, but UC was able to hold for the 6-2 win
Game 2 Highlights
The Arrows exploded for four runs on five hits in the second inning to grab the early lead.
Ursuline added one run in the third, and two to their tally in the fourth to push their lead out to 7-0.
In the top of the sixth inning Mikayla Kesel reached base on a one-out single. After April Howser doubled, Lauren Bennett's single allowed Kesel to score.
Unfortunately the Arrows answered with two runs in their half of the inning to take game two 9-1 via the run-rule.
PIONEER POINTS
- Karlie Duvall had a team-high three hits in the doubleheader.
- Morgan Wilhelm's double in the first game is the first of her Malone Pioneer career.
- Lauren Bennett added two RBIs to her season total. She leads the team with 16 runs driven in on the year.
Malone is scheduled to play their final non-conference games of the season on Thursday when they travel to the University of Charleston for a doubleheader.
First pitch is slated for 2:00 p.m.
