Following a two-day break due to the wonderful Northeast Ohio weather, the Walsh Cavaliers and Ohio Dominican Panthers resumed their four-game series with a doubleheader on Sunday (April 10).
Walsh rallied for an 8-5 win in game one before the Panthers took the second game by a 8-3 final score.
Game 1 (W, 8-5)
- Ohio Dominican took the lead in the top half of the first inning with a RBI single before the game stayed 1-0 until the third inning.
- Walsh used two home runs and a double to plate five runs in the home half of the third inning. Joey Holiga hit a solo shot to left field before Jarret Lyon drilled a three-run blast to center field. Davis Burick ended the scoring in the frame with a RBI double to center field. Walsh led 5-1 after three innings.
- The Panthers clawed back with one run in the fourth and three in the sixth inning to tie the contest at five.
- In the bottom of the sixth, Walsh regained the lead on just one hit. After a leadoff single and walk, Andrew Morse laid down a sacrifice bunt but the ODU pitcher threw it down the right field line after fielding it. One run scored and Walsh had runners in scoring position. Back-to-back sacrifice flies from Matt McGrath and Holiga made it 8-5.
- The Panthers got the tying run to the plate in the seventh but Walsh closed the door.
- Holiga had two hits, including one of Walsh's two round-trippers. Burick reached base three times on two walks and a double.
- After Brant Alazaus allowed five runs (two earned) in 5.2 innings, Zach Thompson entered and threw 1.1 scoreless innings for the win.
- Ben Lefebvre opened the game with a single in the first and moved around the bases to score. He moved on a wild pitch and flyout before a passed ball brought him home. Walsh led 1-0 after one inning.
- A two-run error in the second inning gave Ohio Dominican a 2-1 lead before a six-run third inning blew the game open for the Panthers.
- Brady Maciak and Jacob Beachy added solo home runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as the Cavaliers made it 8-3.
- Beachy and Maciak both had two-hit games with an extra-base hit. Lefebvre had the only other hit as Walsh was limited to five hits in the nightcap.
- Tyler Giesige, Steve Garrett, Alex Firsdon and Caleb Canter all pitched scoreless innings in relief except Giesige went 1.1 innings.
