15

Walsh University Athletics issued the following announcement on Feb. 1

After a 2021 Great Midwest regular season and tournament win, the Walsh Cavaliers women's lacrosse team was voted as the preseason favorites in 2022 by the Great Midwest head coaches.

Walsh was the top vote getter in the 2022 Great Midwest Women's Lacrosse Preseason Coaches Poll presented by Under Armour. The Cavaliers earned five of the six first-place votes (you can't choose yourself) as the top team. Findlay earned the last first-place vote in second place. Tiffin followed in third with conference newcomer Ashland in fourth. Lake Erie returns to action and is tied for fifth place with the Ursuline Arrows.

Head coach Matt Shields returns a large number of the conference champions for the 2022 season. Six of the eight All-Conference Team members are back for Walsh, including the Offensive Player of the Year Hannah McFeeters and Co-Defensive Player of the Year Halle Kotulock. The team will have back five of the top seven goal scorers, the top two assist tallies, and seven of the top nine point totals on offense. The Cavaliers will see contributions from six of the top nine groundballers and the top six players in draw controls - as well as Kathleen Mendenhall and Megan Morris in between the pipes.

Walsh will open the season on February 23rd in Charleston, West Virginia. Conference play will begin March 27th at Larry Staudt Field against Ashland.
