Walsh University Athletics issued the following announcement on Jan. 11
Following an upset of #20 Hillsdale on the road last week, senior guard Darryl Straughter was named Great Midwest Athlete of the Week on Tuesday (Jan. 11) afternoon.
Straughter was a key cog in the machine that handed the 20th-ranked Chargers their third loss of the year last Thursday, 76-52. The Canton, Ohio product tallied a game-high 18 points and nine rebounds along a stat line of four assists and one steal. He made eight-of-12 shots from the field and knocked down two of his three attempts from beyond the arc.
For the season, he averages 14.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game while shooting 37.3% overall and 34.3% from three. Straughter is third in three pointers per game (2.92), fourth in the conference in three-point shooting percentage (34.3%) and fifth in total threes made (35).
Straughter enters play Thursday at Cedarville tied for the program lead for career three pointers (354) and third in career scoring (1,876). He can move into second place with 19 points.
