CANTON, Ohio - The Canton Civic Center will be serving as an overnight warming center for those in need due to the continued frigid temperatures in Canton on the night of Tuesday, January 16, 2024. This initiative aims to provide a safe and warm space for individuals to seek refuge from the cold weather.

According to Tammy Diener, spokesperson for the city of Canton, "The Canton Civic Center will be open as an overnight warming center for those in need. COVID-19 precautions such as masks and social distancing must be observed."

To ensure the safety and well-being of those seeking assistance, the Canton Police and Fire Departments will be present at the warming center, monitoring the situation and providing support. Citizens who are outside in the cold weather and require assistance are encouraged to call 911.

The Canton Civic Center, located at 1101 Market Avenue North, Canton, OH 44702, will serve as the primary location for the overnight warming center. Guests are required to enter through the south doors labeled "McKinley Room," which are situated below the parking garage. Masks will be available on-site for those who need them. In addition to providing a warm shelter, the center will also offer beverages and hot food to ensure the comfort of its guests.

Another option available to those in need is The Refuge of Hope, located at 715 Second St NE, Canton, OH 44704. On Wednesday, January 17, 2024, the shelter will be open from 8 am to 6 pm. Guests are instructed to enter through door #4 and will be provided with hot beverages and food.

For individuals requiring transportation to these warming centers, SARTA (Stark Area Regional Transit Authority) will be available. However, in the event that SARTA is not operational, assistance can be obtained by calling 330-649-5800.

As the frigid temperatures persist, the city of Canton is committed to providing support and resources to its citizens in need. The overnight warming centers offer a lifeline for individuals seeking warmth and comfort during this challenging time.
